I would examine the case of Nona Gaprindashvili

for years no one thought that there would ever be a female chess grandmaster.
Now there is, the reason is that the conditioning to be a grandmaster must begin at an early age, and this rarely happened amoungst girls.
I wouldn't hold it against men because they occupy more IT positions, they've generally simply been conditioned in engineering and IT more than the potential female candidates.
Its like blaming tiger woods for being a good golfer or christine aguilera for being a good singer.
