Instead of just using the built in text editing frameworks, they wrote their own. The result is that TextMate offers features not found in most other text processors.


If you are using emacs to do your programming, you might want to try it. Writing some quick perl, java, whatever, it has stylesheets to colorize things to make it easier to read, all automagically...


Sure, it cost money, but it was so worth it.
