  iPod Mic Shootout

I have the Belkin hooked to a 30 gig 5G ipod. I've got approx 5 gigs of free space on my drive. I've noticed if I make recordings of more than just a few minutes, I get drop-outs in the audio, sort of like a time-jump. A person in the recording will start a sentence, and before the sentence is through, I'm hearing the end of the paragraph. I can only guess this is due to a fragmented drive, or maybe a buffer issue? I can't imagine it would have something to do with the actual microphone, but I don't really know.

Either way, I needed something a little more reliable, so I bought the Zoom H4 (based largely on its review at this website). So far, I've been very happy with the Zoom, although the iPod solution is much smaller and easier to throw in a backpack.

If someone knows what's going on with the time-jump issue, or if you've experienced it yourself, I'd like to hear about it. I haven't been able to find any additional info about it on the web.
