I used Oracle JDeveloper for the class diagrams. Very easily could have used Eclipse with the proper plugins.

  Thanks for the reply. Great article by the way. You picked up a very innocent looking real world problem and shown a very decent solution to that.
  
  It's not a proof of concept implementation but a concrete solution.
  
  With threads, even a small problem becomes real annoying.
  
  It's a very good example to show that design really matters.
