I have used the Microtrack for over a year and have used it at least 25 times in concert. I have been using a Denecke AD-20 portable pre-amp I got on ebay for $150 dollars and it has worked great. It connects to the spdif input and sounds very clean. The only drawback is that you can't moniter the recording on the fly beacuse it is using the digital in. The mics I use are the Nak CM300's and the Carver SASS-P MKII and both are battery powered so I don't need the phantom power.
I generaly get about 4 hours off the built in power and have a USB battery I also got on Ebay which I have never come close to running out. I figure it would last at least 8 hours. The battery also can connect to other non USB devises and have various voltage outputs. Very handy and it was only about $70.
I have had a couple of bad experiences with the Microtrack when recording, once the play back was about 10x faster than normal ( weird ),a few times I could see it was playing back but there was no audio. I could actually play those files back using Foobar 2000, and once when I started the recording at way to high a level and it never could be played back at all.
All in all, I am very happy with it, especially when I see other folks with their heavy rigs of DA-P1's and notebooks with all the extra batteries and pre-amp and I am very light weight. I also have my stealth rig where I use Soundcore binarual mics that I converted to 1/4 TRS which works well and is undetectable for places like MSG.
