  Demystifying LDAP Data
Subject:   LDAP and Active Directory

From:   shw2
We have a front end that we've written to provide our users with a simple (and restricted) access to our LDAP directories. We need to support systems on Windows and would (optimally) like to either find a good open source client that can work with both LDAP and AD or figure out how to use our existing code to access AD as well as LDAP. Any thoughts or ideas? We'd love to find an easy to use open source client that can do the job.

Thanks,

Steve

I thought AD was also LDAP compliant, so you would be able to 'talk LDAP' to it. Is this not true?

What is then the difference between LDAP and AD, from the client application's perspective?

    Thx

Although I don't spent much time on Microsoftness, I've written clients in my framework that can access AD as well as at least a half dozen more compliant LDAP server implementations:

And if it doesn't do what you want, we can make it so because it's all open source. Easy to use is a separate issue for now.
