Very interesting article by Scott Bourne! The subsequent comments to his article seem to re-enforce his stated premise for writing the piece in the first place. While many amateur's demonstrate substantial technical knowledge related to cameras and equipment they often fail to understand the unique advantages particular to the variety of processing and file management software. In my opinion Scotts perspective is accurate and may even expose the biggest difference in images realized via the professional versus amateur photographer. That difference being the incorporation of many applications for specific reasons rather than having the expectation that there is one solution to the digital workflow. The professional understands that they are the creative and everything else involved whether hardware or software is just a tool. Despite the digital revolution and the advanced technology the effective practice of photography still requires education, craft and understanding of many tools. That aspect of photography remains un-changed. |
