| I use S**t Talker version 1.2. Though it was originally conceived for making prank phone calls (!), I just use it for the many synthesised high-quality voices availiable. You can select a preset voice and then modify it to make literally thousands of voices! And it's FREE!!! I use Total Recorder to render the voice to a file, since it does not have that capability itself. Works under Windows only. :( | ||

It’s actually a front end for another program called DocTalker; it works by remotely pasting text from a button into DocTalker and clicking the “Test” button. The buttons sometimes took several presses to work for me, but I found I could also type directly into DocTalker. I wouldn’t call the speech synth realistic, but it has some fantastic cartoony voices, like The Fly and Fast Fred. Great find!
