I am using a 4 gig Hitachi Microdrive that came from an old apple iPod mini.
I had initially done a test to check record lengths, and the machine happily recorded through the entire 6 hours without stopping or complaining.
When the day came to use it, it recorded on half the space, stopped recording, then wouldn't go into record again.
Fortunately I had the 128 meg CF card that came with the Microtrack to hand, so recorded the rest of the concert in MP3 format.
After removing the files and reformatting the card I tried to record again, and was able to record for 6 hours straight.
I haven't yet found a reason why this behaviour occurred.
The chances are I will never need to record for anywhere near 6 hours straight again, but the one time I needed to, it let me down. I am hoping it was a one-off glitch, or something that a firmware update will solve. Chances are I won't see it surface again, but it would be interesting to hear if anyone else had it.
All that being said, this device is truly remarkable: phantom power, effectively endless recording times on tiny media, and extremely fast transfers to computer. I've been waiting for something like this for over 10 years.

Either compact flash is a flaky format or the file management software on the machine itself is flaky.
