In windows, I just use the windows media player as the LastFM player seems a bit buggy - sometimes it doesn't play if you switch to another application, or open a new web browser. In Linux they say they support:
* Quod Libet
* XMMS
* AmaroK
* Noatun
* Banshee

The similar artist selections do tend to stray a bit. But I sort of like that. If the Steve Reich channel only played the handful of acknowledged minimalists, I think it'd be pretty narrow. My point was more that LastFM can address some of these genres where the genomic approach will have trouble with them. I can't imagine what genomes would work with someone like Stockhausen for example. I don't know that it could even be done in this case. His music is so varied in itself. Gesang de Junglige for example is in a totally different sound world than Momente.

    I think it would be either very difficult or very easy to create music matching for 20th century artists. All dependent on the number of criteria. Just deciding on the criteria, though, would be difficult!

    Note that even though artists, like Stockhausen, have varied music in their repertoire, that doesn't come into play with Pandora. Their analysis is on a song by song basis, not by artist.
