On running ant, build.xml is executed & running fine. I need to know why the root tag in build.xml should be <project> & ant looks for which jar when it encounters <project> tag.

  Hmm. I am not exactly sure what you need here. It sounds like you are looking for the source file where the name of the project file is defined. Is that what you want?
