per documentation: "This method is not needed for the initial handshake, as the wrap() and unwrap() methods will implicitly call this method if handshaking has not already begun." so you don't need to call this for the initial handshake like the article suggests

  not true, you need to call it unless you start with calling wrap/unwrap depending on if you are server or client
