Both computers using windows XP Pro latest services packs.

Do you also have the latest version of Windows Media Player? Several readers have reported that updating that did the trick. (See the 11/14/2005 post below.)

What happens when you right-click the link (thereby bypassing the embedding and JavaScript)? You should get MP3 playback in a new window or via an external program. If not, perhaps your browser is not configured to handle MP3s.

You might also try specifying WMP in the object tag, as in the 4/14/2005 post below.

Hope this helps. Let us know what happens. —David

HI! Thank for your reply, sorry that it so long for me to reply. I though I would be emailed when reply too.

I do have the latest version WMP. I know why now it defaulted to quick time. it was because I had set nero as my default mp3 player.

However my partner also had the same problem. so how many out there are going to face this as well? this is my issue. my partner does not like quick time and may people I know refuse to use it as well as they dont want to have another player on there system. So I dont want to loose users for this reason. In my partners case it did not play at all. there was no sound bar. so I would like to force wmv player even if the user does not have WMP as there default player in case this happens.

In the post you suggested 1/14/2005 it mentions that the jscript would have to be rewriten. so how do I implement the surgestion? do I modify the js. file? or do I implement this in the html page?

The latest version of this script should fix the problem. See http://digitalmedia.oreilly.com/2006/05/31/build-a-better-web-audio-player.html.
