I take your meaning about Aperture being a workflow tool. I find it's a good one - but only good verging on mediocre - because it handles RAW conversions so poorly.
I shoot with a 1Ds Mk II. When I compare the results of Camera RAW to Aperture I find Aperture is not adequate, especially when shooting at high ISOs. Aperture is all about RAW workflow. If it can't give me a good RAW image to pass to Photoshop then why use it?
I'll continue to use Aperture so I can handle it adequately when it's up to par, but until Aperture really can do as good a job as Camera RAW it's less than useful otherwise it's like shot with a crappy lens.
