I ran into the same problem, but found the solution: try adding the extension .keychain to the file. It worked for me! mr.Gadget

  MR Gadget, thanks for the advice! It's gotten me somewhat further, but still hasn't solved the problem.
  
  I'm able to get the old keychain to appear in the list of keychains now -- however, I'm still unable to import the items in the old keychain into the login keychain. any thoughts?
