I can understand the struggle to figure out appropriate licensing and distribution terms for a software program. It's not a physical object, so it it's not as simple as, for example, ten staff means you need ten staplers. Or they can share a smaller number. But there is no easy way to replicate staplers, so you have to buy however many you need.


But the whole business with trying to control the personal, private use of things that we own- that we bought and paid for- goes way over the line. If the vendor wishes to exert that much control, we should get something in return, like a lifetime warranty, first-class tech support and service, and lifetime free upgrades. Because if the vendor controls how we use their products, they have not reliquished ownership, and must retain responsibility for the product.
