Oh, I forgot to mention a member of the National Institute of Standards of Technology (under the Commerce Dept) is the chair of the IEEE 802.16 committee. 802.16 is aimed at designing wireless to be used for adhoc metro area networking, 802.11 was designed for indoors and has problems with distance.
