I was trying to refrain from posting here (wasted brain cells matter), but since I don't see any "sponsored by" tags, I will eventually do it.

a) Photos -> "Hyper-ultimate-super-duper Technology, Me and Nature", "Me and My Business".

b) Essentials -> Pro Tools an "essential". OMG. Welcome to 2005.

c) Creativity -> Macs for "people who want to be creative".

"I just installed a PC studio on Pro Tools the other day and where it takes one simple installer on a Mac, it took four different intallations and restarts on a PC."

"Installed a PC studio on Pro Tools"! OMG.

"I installed a sequencer called Pro Tools". Better now. A "PC Studio" is something different. It's a setup with the computer in the main spot.

"It takes one simple installer on a Mac"!

So what?

"It took four different intallations and restarts on a PC"!

So, you installed Pro Tools on your Mac, and to install the same sequencer on a PC, you had to go through 4 different installations? Well, I must be blind then, because I see only one installer over here.

Despite that, I hope that you understand that your argument is absolutely ridiculous, regarding technicality and creativity.

You also write: "...I guarantee you will have headache upon headache trying to get everything working". Are you on a mission or something? I've had Macs since 1984, up to the latest G5s (just to clarify) and during the last 5 years, I only use them for compatibility reasons (for some clients). I know hundreds of PC users and they had 9 problems with their setups. I also know hundreds of Mac users and they had 0 problems with their setups. But again, I know dozens of Mac users that *do* have problems with their setups and dozens of PC users that find it difficult to adjust their tools to their preferences. It's not the tool, it's the player. If someone has half a brain, hey surprise, it won't work. Something will go wrong and the player will blame the tool. I bet that if we have the same exact Mac setups, my setup will perform better, because I will know how to use it properly. Again, if we take two identical PC setups, you will suffer from the common diseases of the PC world (if Macs were the majority, there would be many more viruses for Mac, if Linux was the desktop OS of choice, the same would happen, yada-yada) and you won't have a well-tuned PC. Mine will beat the fastest Mac, because I know how to use it. That doesn't stop me from being "creative" and I only have to spend a few hours tuning my PC. I could skip the tuning and use it right away too, but hey, it's up to the player.

"With a Mac, you get what you pay for". Right. Hype. That what's you get.

d) Choice of words -> "Ultimate Portable Studio"

Girl, you have no idea about what you're talking about. You present some tools that you find that they work for *you* and you spend $5k for a 7. I will spend half of that for a 9.

Am I the only one who sees a pattern here (M-audio was bought by "guess who" makers of "essential" Pro Tools, Avid has a "special" relationship with "guess who" Mac makers who bought Logic, AKG's distributor blah-blah)?

Sweet dreams.

M-Audio makes some of the best audio gear for someone with a restricted budget. I've been investigating this in the last couple of weeks because I am building my own studio. M-Audio has been recommended by producers, engineers, musicians, techies and users of both computer platforms.

That's not to say there are other options out there that are better or worse. But for my price range (which is similar to Gina's) it's a the best option I've found.

What's getting me about the detractors of this article is that you are all ready to criticise the author's recommendations, saying that they are off-base. But you haven't provided any alternative solutions to support your claims.

If you can get a 9 spending half the amount, why not tell us how?

I really appreciate your input and everything you have to say, so please take my debate as just that... a friendly debate based on my own experience and my own opinions. Hopefully we can both learn from our differences.

Ask 90% of any "professional" musicians, engineers, studios, producers, songwriters etc - and what do they use? Mac and Pro Tools. Why? Is is because they like to spend more money? Is it because the like being tied to a Digi compatible interface? No. It's sincerely because they're both excpetional and I feel that the (again I reitterate) "professional" music community will back me up.

If you want to work with other people and take your work to and from other studios, Pro Tools is the standard. That's a fact. Like it or not. So, for me, being able to send my work to world class musicians and then send it to an engineer to mix and then send it on to be mastered. I would much rather be able to give them my Pro Tools sessions rather than having to bounce or export files... but maybe you don't work outside of your own studio. I do. So, again, I stand by my statement, for the professional musician, I feel, that Pro Tools is an essesntial.

Again - I clearly said that 'if you want to save a few bucks, go with a PC..." But I think the Mac is a 9 and the PC is a 7.

Last, I could give a $^&%$ what company has a relationship with who... I use what I use because it works for me not because I have an alliance with "you know who". Gosh, if you're a democrat, (and I am) then you should turn off your TV now because most every station is owned by some biased right wing republican parent company that controls what information you receive... lighten up... we're talking about audio software not corporate mergers....

    Virtual hugs,

    Gina
