I'm happy to report that the open source community has been busy at work enabling us to use the M4S2 codec natively in QuickTime Player on Mac OS X. That means that now all you have to do is double-click the movie file and it plays. Plus you can edit it with QT Pro and catalog in iPhoto 5.
