1079 msec! That's well over a second! Well.. I use SQLExplorer too with the Oracle thin driver and I don't face this problem. I hadn't heard of Free Toad. Will check it out

  Would you mind sharing your setup information. I have been having problems setting up SQLExplorer with Oracle using either the OCI or Thin client driver.

  The JDBC driver performance of the thin driver vs oci driver is comparable.

  Eh, Wrong! The OCI and Thin driver performance are not comparable ... more over you have just denied yourself the opportunity of using one of your databases best features, TAF. (Transparent Application Failover) In a production RAC environment, with management hovering over your shoulder, do you want to be the Developer that has to tell management ... "I am sorry that I have to shut down the applications but, I was stupid and used the Oracle Thin Driver."
