I suppose all sciences can give you some perspective on your own place in the scheme of things but I've certainly found geology to put everything in a very different perspective. Until I'd been in a few earthquakes it never crossed my mind that the earth beneath my feet wasn't solid. Once you start reading about the oceans that once covered the midwest you just have to see the physical world as much more fluid than you ever could have imagined. Personally I find this sort of information fascinating.
