Few months ago, XDoclet was not able to parse Java5 source files. We had to switch annotations and APT It was quite easy.

  Yes, there's an interesting thread on the XDoclet JIRA bug tracking that deals with Java 5 issues. It sounds like they got it fixed, and while I'm not using any 1.5 specific annotations, my examples listed above run fine with Java 5.
  
  I also found a similar project called SGen that will generate code from compiled class files as well.
