I'm just doing a complete clone.


Then I will:


- repair permissions


- boot from clone, thereby checking it for bootability


- then check (and maybe repair) internal drive with DU


- then check (and maybe repair) internal file system with DiskWarrior


- finally UPGRADE the internal drive.


In the past 10+ years this is what I've always done. Works fine (if you've not messed up your system :-p)
