All of the "dumb" ways to secure a wireless LAN mentioned in the zdnet article boil down to the following argument: "A dedicated thief could pick the lock, so why bother locking the door at all?"
Sure, the tips won't make your network bullet-proof, but they'll stop casual snooping and leeching (particularly if you can get to WPA). There are a lot more casual cracker-wannabes than there are dedicated hackers willing to build antennas and run WEP crackers.
