Hey folks. The above hacks work great for me. Perhaps you need to try and use the 'nickname' that you setup for your account? MacOS X uses that short name as your actual username, and the full name for display purposes only. For example, if your name was John Smith, and you used jsmith as your short name, that would be the username. console is not a valid username in the system, btw. Logging in as root with the password you set for su or root should work, too.
