Derrick, Casio is upfront about their lack of Mac support:
Q17. Is movie playback on a Macintosh supported? A17. No. Movie playback using standard Macintosh software (QuickTime, etc.) is not supported. However, there are many non-standard applications and codecs available that support MPEG4 playback, so you can probably find something you can install to play the movies.Casio

The actual codec involved in the ASF wrapper is M4S2, better known as Microsoft ISO MPEG-4 Video V1.1. Developers included M4S2 in the normal VLC, MPlayer and (as you already found out) ffmpegX distributions. So, while you can't play the movies back in QuickTime, you can play back or convert the movie with these other tools.
A bit of googling got me to this link, for which I had great hopes--but it didn't work for me (or, now I find out, for you either). Install it in /Library/Quicktime.

M4S2 Codec

Thank you emonkid! Your Quicktime plugin to play EXILIM AVI works as advertised. Now I can even open my AVI files in iMovie. -
M4S2 Codec

I downloaded the codec and installed. It works for QT and the iDVD to correctly read the Exilim video files. However, the iMovie import movie dialog somehow filters out the exilim avi files. Those files are dimmed and you cannot select them
Wondering how did you get it work in iMovie? Thanks.

M2S4 Codec and ffmpegX

I noted Derrick's great solution for Mac users using ffmpegX, but found going directly from AVI M4S2 to .mov gave me a blocky result irrespective of settings. I found going first to AVI dVix, then on to .mov as a second stage gave me a QuickTime file indistinguishable from the M4S2 file. I should have checked Mac compatability of the 505 before I bought, but never thought to and fell in love with it at sight! -
M2S4 Codec and ffmpegX

My wife fell in love with the new Exilim EX-Z750, which has the great 640x480 30 fps movie mode of the 505 reviewed here. I process my wife's images and movies on my PowerBook. Casio continues not to support QuickTime. Here's my complaint about the ffmpegX solution that I discovered in this great review. The .mov created by ffmpegX that QT can read and play has the wrong aspect ratio, so the video is distorted, stretched horizontally. Yuck. Is there no way to preserve the correct video aspect ratio in the converted video with ffmpegX? Thanks! -

That sounds like something I should try, although I've had pretty good results going straight to Apple's MPEG-4 codec with a .mov extension.
This workflow will get easier when ffmpegX adds batch processing. And don't forget that you can watch you P505 movies directly on the Mac using the VLC player. No encoding required.
