I'm glad the article gives a nod to security issues, but given that FAM on many distributions launches a wide-open rpc daemon, I think it should be more strongly cautioned.
I strongly believe this method of communicating remote filesystem changes over the network is wrongheaded, and that the change information should be passed via file system specific methods, but that's another thing.
Lastly, don't call the GPL "viral". It's not. Viruses attach themselves to others without their permission, and the GPL says very much up front what its terms are, for you to follow or not.
