| Subject: | Relationship with gateway? Embedded firewall vs. gateway | |

I am thinking the pros and cons of embedded web application firewalls vs. web application security gateway firewalls. Embedded firewalls are on the same machine as the servers, so a crash or some problem will affect the servers directly, while gateway firewalls are on a separate machine so the crash will not affect the Web servers. Also, a gateway can be plugged and play, but embedded firewalls still need to be installed, which is extra burden. -by Meshfire |

The gateway/firewall will stop the http server no matter where it is, when it crashes. It does affect the web server, though indirectly.
