My wife has the same DX 6490 camera and the 6000+ version of the printer. I think the only difference is faster output and an auto-enhance feature when printing directly from the camera. She definitely loves both. She volunteers for city events and gets a lot of requests for prints at the events. She purchased the dock for the convenience of being able to produce a some on the spot. We bought the printer dock about a month ago and there haven't been any events since then, but she's anxious for the next one.
We looked at the Epson at the time and felt that it was a better deal as far as per-print prices are concerned. We went with the Kodak for the convenience of having one less USB attachment on the desktop since the Kodak printer dock is also the charging base for our Kodak camera.
We've had a couple HP inkjets, HP-970 and -990, that we always thought made beautiful photos. They do, but they compare poorly to the Kodak output.
