... well, to my thinking anyhow. :) Every e-mail client I've ever used, from the early versions of Eudora to QuickMail to Outlook to Entourage -- all let you close the message you're reading and open the next one in the list with one easy keyboard or menu command-- it's often COMMAND-] or COMMAND-> right next to VIEW NEXT MESSAGE or some such. But in Apple's Mail, there is not only no keyboard command, there's no menu command as well. Aargh!

  Seems that you've never used vm, Apple Mail uses the same keyboard "command": spacebar. Just click on the first mail to read and then give your mouse a rest: Just press space to turn the the next 'page' in the current message. At the end it switches automatically to the next message.

  Hmm. That only works in the main Mail window, not when a message is open. (At least not in 10.2.8.). There seems to be no way to move to the next message when the present message is open.

  Umm, have you tried the arrow keys? If you have selected the message list then the arrow keys switch between messages.
