I currently have my massive music collection stored on a computer in my basement office, but often play the music through my PowerBook (via iTunes sharing) and the home stereo. At first glance, I think the Airport Express would fit my needs perfectly, but I would love to verify a couple things before I pick up one of those good looking power bricks...


1st Question:
I have a wireless network (a Netgear wireless router) AND a wired network in the house. Can I plug in the Airport Express and have it serve as a WAP off my wired network and extend my wireless range to better cover the upstairs?


2nd Question:
Since my music collection is stored downstairs, I would like to control the Airport Express via iTunes on my PowerBook using the sharing feature. I have an ethernet jack right next to the stereo so if Question 1 is possible, can the Airport Express be controlled from a copy of iTunes playing shared music?

    1. You can use the AirPort Express as a bridge for your network. Both of your WAPs should have unique names but the same SSID & password. I don't have a wired network to test this out on, so let us know how well it works.

    2. Yes, you can do this. However, what will actually happen is: the music will stream from the computer in the basement to the PowerBook, the PowerBook will encode the music as Apple Lossless and encrypt it before sending it to the AirPort Express.
