Nat, I totally concur with your request.

Speakers: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE put transcriptions of your speech online. If you need to post the powerpoint/audio/video/playdoh/etc separately, do so. I'll go look at it if I feel the need. There are four key points here:

#1: Almost always, I can't listen to your speech at work. My co-workers would go insane.

#2: Mostly, I won't listen to your speech at home. An hour-long presentation in headphones - so I don't drive my wife insane - just isn't reasonable. If it's a REALLY cool speech and I can't miss it, I will listen. BUT:

#3: The MP3 audio of your talk sucks. There were really interesting talks given at WEB 2.0 recently, and the audio quality was horrible. It sounded like it was recorded from a lavalier mic in the back of a giant room. If you're going to post audio of your talk, PLEASE have it recorded professionally.

#4: The video of your talk sucks. Let's face it: video encoding for a size that's downloadable even over broadband makes for a crappy picture. There was a video posted of a speech Cory Doctorow gave. I downloaded it. Any bigger than about 320x200, and it was totally unwatchable. I am NOT going to watch an hour's talk on a quarter of my screen.
