While I agree with all you say, my plea is for software that is aware it will be intermittently connected, software that survives (or even thrives) on the walk between the RJ45 on the wall and the next Wi-Fi hotspot.
So many network applications are bogged down in constant connectivity, as opposed to the raggedy NearlyNet (a term coined by Clay Shirky here. that any time they can't immediately communicate, the screen is filled with pop-ups to tell you the link has gone...
