In your initial discussion, you cite that DVD-r is the most compatible format. I am torn between a sony RDR-GX7 and a Yamakawa (who??)DVR-628. The Yamakawa has component in, which is a real plus, but it only has DVD+R/RW. I lean towards stand alone units to record off the TV directly, and from the camcorder without dumping video into my computer first.
The Sony does both the + and - formats and the description blub says "These formats (+R/RW)provide broad compatibility with current DVD players" I'm confused!!
