Will this make it more likely that commercial graphic design applications like vector illustration programs will be developed for Linux and other X-Windows platforms?

  The two aren't really related, however, a nearby project called Cairo is providing a great new graphics layer for free operating systems, which would provide a better base for commercial vector graphic systems.
  
  In the meantime, try out Inkscape and Dia.
