I got your point about the sequential nature of AV media. That's why sometimes I prefer reading transcript than to sit through a whole video recording. On the other hand, video captures sound and atmosphere than would be lost in text. I don't the author mean to go one way or another but he want the ability to blend all media as he see fit.
