Instead of copying the pub key to the authorized_keys file, it could be a little smarter to add the pub key to the file: ssh remote_server < .ssh/id_dsa.pub 'cat >> .ssh/authorized_keys' This does not throw away existing keys ... Ronald. --------------------------------- oracle on macosX

  Since this article is meant as an introduction to SSH, the commands indeed assume that this is the first time that keys are uploaded to the server.
