Well, I did the upgrade. Since the Rogers one isn't ready and my phone is "generic" and the "Did you switch carriers" doesn't cover my case but implies that you can't mess up by installing the wrong one, I used the "Other Carriers" upgrade. My phone still works. The "display not updated when coming back into range" problem seems to be gone, at least on first inspection. The Options->Phone Info menu now reports my phone as:
Firmware: 03.05
Software: Treo600-1.12-ROW
Hardware: B
