I wouldnt worry about it to be honest. Nokia mobile phones will soon come with Python! You can make little apps on the fly (no pc needed) and share them etc... If that dosent spark an interest then nothing will.

Also, blitz-basic is a good basic language that allows games to be built. Large community and things as well. Might be more fun and to the point than something like Java.
