Tell Us What You Think: The 2nd Mac DevCenter Survey
Subject:   Really lousy survey.

The survey is pretty badly implemented. After filling it out twice I gave up.

(1) The first time I thought I filled it out correctly. However, the system complained that I had not filled out question #12. That question asks which of a list of developer programs I have been a member of; as I have not been a part of any, I did not select any of the listed boxes. If one box must be checked (it's a "required" question), you must offer a "none" box if you want honest answers.

(2) When it complained about question #12, it presented me with the entire form again, with nothing filled out. It was not clear whether it just wanted an answer to question #12 (in which case it should have presented that question) or whether it wanted the entire survey (in which case it should darn well have remembered the answers to all the other questions).

(3) I'm sure some artist worked long and hard to design the nonstandard radio buttons and checkboxes for the survey, HOWEVER the implementation was such that even when I tried (the second time) to use the back button to return to the filled-out version of the survey and resubmit it with some false answer filled in for #12, all the checkbox and radio button selections were cleared. Normal controls retain the selection when someone uses the back button.

We're using Zoomerang for handling the surveys. I tried to get as many of those mandatory flags removed as possible. But if I were to make a change now, we'd have to start all over. Considering that about 1,000 folks have made it through the survey, I'm going to see this one through. I have lots of good information that I'm going to share with this audience in early April.
