The notion of scalability is not a legacy hold-over from centralized servers. Rather, the client-server community adopted the term after it had seen long use in the MPP/SMP user community. Distributed, decentralized systems are much more like MPP applications than desktop or client/server apps, and all the scalability considerations which applied in the MPP world apply to p2p distributed apps.
