Of course, you cannot share an Internet connection using the same port you're accessing the Web on. For example, you cannot share through an AirPort if you connect to the Internet using AirPort.

Sharing on same port

The author is actually right, simply because you can't connect to the Internet and to another computer through the same physical port, and the fact that a single Ethernet card may have more than 1 IP addresses is irrelevant here. But of course more than 1 computers can share the Internet connection through a hub, or your computer might have more than one NICs in which case one of them can connect to the Internet and another one to another computer. -

Only Airport has this limitation. You can create additional ethernet ports to share but not Airport. -

No, I believe that jameshowison is actually the correct one. I am quite able to run (with one physical interface) my Built-in Ethernet connection back out to other computers through my Built-in Ethernet connection.
The author and yourself are both wrong. It is in fact possible. -- Not advisable, of course... and very risky in terms of network stability. But "possible" nonetheless.
