The website says is will work in active mode, but I am having trouble as well. KisMac will see my home wireless network, but will receive no packets or register any network activity. What's the difference between "active" and "passive" modes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance. -

Sorry but not even close. The Active vs Passive here is in regards to wireless not ftp.
Active sniffing is when you join an SSID which requires some transmission of date, signifying you are there.
Passive sniffing is like sitting there with an antenna and just receiving packets, not actually joining any SSID. This is undetectable as you never transmit anything.
