Here's a couple of links to Linux distributions geared towards the desktop user. Each offers it's own unique spin. For those of you looking for a Red Hat based system take a look at The Fedora Project or Mandrake. If you're interested in taking Linux out for a spin, but aren't sure if you're willing to install, check out Knoppix (it boots from the CD). If Microsoft does most of your thinking for you, check out Xandros or Lindows. There's more distributions than you can shake a stick at out there, but these should get you pointed in the right direction. If you're looking for something a little more flexible check out Gentoo ;)
