I fully agree with you, but IMPROV especially caught my attention. I am using Improv still every day, and the reason is simple: Excel just cannot cope with multiple dimensions (Pivot tables are a nice try, but only for display, not for input). There are plenty of applications where you need more than two dimensions. Just one example is Planning, where you need at least Tasks, People and Time units. I have a nice application that calculates a plan automatically, with constraints on available resources. I had tried a long time with Microsoft Project, but it just did not do what I wanted. I am afraid though that one day the use of Improv will be denied to me because of yet another update of the Operating System. At that time I will be glad to switch to Open Source, if Improv could evolve along with that environment.
