What made (and still does make) Java an absolute pleasure is not just the structure of the language. It is the community at large and specifically Apache/Jakarta which provided rich libraries to get almost any job done in a good way: well thought out concepts, emphasis on standards as possible and openness of code, well supported, re-use of other libraries/products, etc.
