I am really surprised that you did not even mention Image Capture in the section about Native MacOSX tools. For a free app that is included in the OS it is great. I use it often to make quick scans with and almost always use it to preview the contents of a CF card before downloading. You can rotate, delete and view at a much bigger size than in the Finder. One caveat: if you use Image Capture to import RAW files and have the "embed profile" option checked in the "Options" the files will be corrupted. Otherwise I use IC quite a bit.
