I have had exactly the same experience including not being able to use the stitich function because that can only operate through the canon image browser. I have not had much success finding answers. Any ideas gratefully received.

  I installed the PhotoStitch on its own and noticed that "PhotoStitch Laucher" didn't work - double-clicking on the PhotoStitch application in the PhotoStitch/Program folder worked like a charm for me.
  
  I didn't have ImageBrowser installed
