I've got a 957; I haven't seen the Java devices yet, though I'm told they're cool. What I'd like to see is better integration of the tools that are there. For instance, you should be able to mail memos; the cut'n'paste facility isn't enough--there's a maximum message size (which may be undocumented).
I haven't looked at RIM Reader yet, but since I don't mind typing with my thumbs, I yearn for extra facilities to make my BlackBerry something other than an extension of Outlook. I want a really simple text editor that supports simple text search, file size, and some kind of movement commands (end of file, beginning of file, line number). It could double as a reader--or perhaps the interface to RIM Reader could be extended to be an editor.
There also needs to be easier integration between device and desktop--if I create something with the (hypothetical) editor, I want to be able to move it to the desktop easily.
I often travel into areas without radio coverage; I want my BlackBerry to still be useful.
