I am going to try the following when I step up to Mandrake 9.1 . I am going to put /opt in its own partition and create a subdirectory /downloads. There is a program called STOW which I have read about recently which can do essentually what this article calls for. Unfortunately, it will not handle rpms but must use tgz source. Hopefully this cure my problem of wiping out my downloads every time I upgrade. |
